Handspinning Plarn

Wanting to use up all those plastic bags and after crocheting a recycled plastic bag to take to farmers markets I wanted another way to use the plastic and decided if I could spin torn rag or cloth strips with wool yarn then I could spin plastic so gave it a go spinning then plying the plastic bags in Plarn - plastic yarn.  Its strong and gives an unusual finish and I might weave some of the plied plarn into a blind but the strips also look pretty cool just inserted into weaving to give a more transluscent effect.

'Plarn'  made out of recycled bread bags and assorted plastic from the pantry cupboard
By cutting in strips on the folded bag and going diagonally you end up with a continuous length of plastic to start off the spinning process

Getting quite excited as to the possibilities I did a search on the net and found some even more interesting ways to use Plarn Watch a video on how to spin plarn here :

Finished plarn after plying - its pretty simple - just an extension of spinning yarn without the flexibility !

Give it a go and see what you can come up with too ... here's to your Plarning !
