How to Make a DIY Hackle for preparing Yarns for Spinning & Indigo Hound Viking Combs

So, what exactly is a Hackle ?
Basically its a row of coarse teeth that you pull the fleece through to prepare it for spinning.  Its great for preparation of novelty yarns and for combining and blending  different textures and fantastic for mixing up a variety of rovings to get unique yarns.

In preparation for a Spinning workshop on Saturday  I wanted to see if there were any do it yourself sites around to show what a Hackle looked like and found this cool site on a DIY version made with plastic combs.
See how to do it on Yarnzombies blog here:  How to make a Hackle  out of plastic combs  including photos on how to do it.

Normally I use a dog comb as it is quite heavy duty but these could work for some people,  although I may be too heavy handed to keep the plastic for any length of time but its worth a go to see if you like the idea and if it works for you.

Indigo Hound Viking combs with Double Rows of teeth make short work of heavy vermin and debris in a fleece
If you would prefer to get them ready to go and buy ready made then try out the Indigo Hound Viking combs with double rows of teeth - watch out through as they are pretty lethal weapons if you don't watch how you go :)
